How to translate Advanced Captions and export subtitles

Correct the source transcript before translating it. Translation can preserve transcription mistakes, especially in names and technical terms.

Translate the transcript

  1. Open the Advanced Captions workspace.
  2. Open Translate captions.
  3. Click the plus control to add a translation. Check the source language, select the target language and click Translate.
  4. Wait for the translated transcript, then select that language.
  5. Review the translation and correct any names, terminology or awkward phrasing.
  6. Check the caption preview: translated sentences can have a different length and wrap differently.

Switching the active language changes the transcript you are working with. Check the selected language before importing or exporting. In the Advanced Captions workflow, output uses the selected language.

Import animated captions

A newly translated version may have no preset applied. Select its chunks and apply the intended preset, preview the result and click Import into Premiere Pro. Then use Premiere Pro to export the finished video with its animated captions.

Export an SRT

Click Export as SRT in the caption editor, choose a filename and save the subtitle text and timing. Check the language and wording before exporting.
An SRT file contains subtitle text and timestamps. It does not preserve the Advanced Captions composition, animations, fonts, colors, emojis or sound effects. Use SRT for a subtitle track; use the Premiere Pro video export for the rendered animated design.
If you import an existing SRT, review its timing against the sequence and apply an Advanced Captions preset to create the visual design.

Translate the English transcript into French.

Save the transcript as an SRT file.
