How to position Advanced Captions and use safe zones
Position captions in the Advanced Captions preview so they stay readable without covering important parts of the video.
Move all captions
- Apply a preset and preview a caption with several words.
- Click Move all captions in the preview controls.
- Move the caption in the preview or use the arrow keys to adjust the position. Shift plus an arrow moves it in larger steps.
- Check several short and long captions to make sure the whole design stays visible.
For a single caption, work on that caption instead of using Move all captions. Check the scope before moving anything. In this example, Orange Script is placed below the speaker's face.
Use safe zones
Turn on Show safe zones. Use the available platform guide or custom margins to see where captions may compete with player controls. Keep the important words inside the safe area.
Safe-zone overlays are preview guides. They do not automatically move captions, change the sequence's aspect ratio or guarantee identical placement on every device. Turn the overlay off to review the clean result.
Check the sequence format
Review the actual output format: landscape, square or portrait. A design that works in 16:9 can wrap differently in 9:16. Recheck long phrases and words near the frame edges after changing format.
Recover a caption outside the frame
Use the position-reset control for the affected caption or selection. Preview the reset placement, then move it in smaller increments.
When placement is correct, import the captions and check them in Premiere Pro's Program Monitor.
