What are the AutoCaptions transcription settings ?

We outline the transcription settings to help you use AutoCaptions more easily and take full advantage of its features.

The Editing Block

Editing Blog

When you select a caption block on your timeline, it appears in the editor at the top of the screen: this is the editing block. From here, you can:

  • Click on any word to correct or adjust it manually
  • Add emojis by clicking “Generate Emojis”
  • Play the audio in real-time using the “Enable Sound Playback” toggle
  • Delete or restore a specific caption block
  • Merge or split blocks to better control the subtitle pacing and structure

The Transcript

Transcript

The transcript section allows you to manage your subtitles globally:

  • Transcription history: Access and restore previous versions of your captions
  • Merge blocks: Combine multiple blocks into one to simplify formatting
  • Red words: Words highlighted in red may contain transcription errors, make sure to review them carefully

⚠️  Note: We recommend always reviewing the entire transcript before finalizing your subtitles.

Additional Transcript Options

You’ll also find additional tools to customize and optimize your captions:

  • Generate static emojis: AI adds emojis based on the dialogue
  • Generate animated emojis: Same as above, but with animation
  • Format numbers: Automatically replaces written numbers with numerals
  • Correct with AI: auto-corrects your captions instantly
  • Copy transcript to clipboard
  • Remove punctuation: Simplifies the visual presentation of captions
  • Find and replace: Quickly search and replace words across your captions (e.g. if “AutoCut” was miswritten as “AutoCAD”)
  • Split chunks on punctuation

Translation

Translation

Once your transcript is reviewed, you can translate it directly in AutoCaptions:

  • Click the “+” button
  • Select the language you want to translate into
  • AutoCut will generate a translated version of the transcript
  • You can then edit and adjust the translated blocks as needed

Merge nearby captions

You can also activate “Merge nearby captions” to automatically group blocks that are only separated by short silences, the silence threshold is customizable.

💡 Tip: If you spot an issue after importing your subtitles, you can always return to the editor by clicking “Back to the transcript editor”, no need to start over.
