# What are the AutoCut Silences settings ?

We detail the AutoCut Silences settings for you so that you can more easily use it and fully benefit from its features.

### Noise Level
The noise level is the volume in dB of noise in sequences. Silences are any parts below this parameter.

|| 💡 Use AI's automatic decibel detection, simplifying the adjustment of your sound levels with one click.

### Pacing & Silence duration
The Pacing & Silence Duration setting lets you control the rhythm of your final edit by adjusting how silences and short sounds are handled.

You can either choose a preset (like *Calm*, *Measured*, *Paced, ect*) for a quick setup, or manually fine-tune the silence settings to match your editing style:
* **Remove silences longer than:** This sets the minimum length (in seconds) of silence that AutoCut will remove.
→ *Example: If set to 0.5s, any silence shorter than 0.5s will stay in your edit.*
💡 Useful for keeping natural pauses in a conversation.

* **Keep talks longer than:** Set the minimum duration (in seconds) to retain talk segments.
→ *Example: If set to 0.3s, any speech or sound shorter than 0.3s will be considered too short and removed.*
💡Useful for skipping very short sounds or noises, like a quick breath or a mic bump, and keeping only meaningful talk.
These controls help you strike the right balance between a fast-paced edit and a more natural, flowing one.

### Margin Size
The padding size is the number of seconds added to the start and end of each cut. This prevents the beginning or end of a word from being cut. AutoCut Silences has two settings for padding: Padding before and Padding after.

|| 💡 Margin is very useful to avoid cutting the beginning or end of a sentence, making the video editing more natural.

### Silence Management
AutoCut Silences offers four options for managing silences:

* **Remove silences** (default): Cuts and removes silences. **This is the most used option of AutoCut Silences**.
* **Keep silences**: Only cuts silences, but does not remove them.
* **Mute silences**: Cuts and mutes silences, like noise suppression.
* **Remove silences but keep spaces**: Cuts and removes silences, but does not pull clips together.

### Transitions
AutoCut Silences allows you to choose from five transition options between cuts:
* **No transition**(default): No transitions will be applied, cuts will be sharp.
* **J-Cut**: Applies a J-Cut to each cut.
* **L-Cut**: Applies an L-Cut to each cut.
* **Constant Power**: Applies a "constant power" transition from Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve to smooth out cuts.

### Sequence Preview
The Sequence Preview gives you a visual overview of your timeline before AutoCut makes any cuts. It’s the perfect place to check if your silence and audio detection settings (like silence length, noise level, and padding) are working as expected and to make adjustments if needed.

* The noise level threshold you’ve set is shown as a horizontal red line in the preview.
→ This helps you understand which parts of the audio are considered “silence” or “speech” based on volume.

|| 💡 Hover over the preview to see the exact dB level of your audio at any point.

* Red sections in the preview represent silences that will be removed from your timeline.
→ These are areas where the audio stays below your noise threshold and matches your “Remove silences longer than” setting.

* Light green sections represent the padding, a bit of extra time added before and after each speech segment.
→ This ensures smoother transitions between cuts and avoids overly sharp edits.

|| 💡 Padding can be customized in your silence settings.

* To move through the preview, use the interactive timeline located below the preview window.
→ Drag the orange cursor to quickly move forward or backward in the preview
