**__What are J-Cuts and L-Cuts?__**

J-cuts and L-cuts are audio-video editing techniques used to create natural transitions between two shots. They involve shifting the audio relative to the image to enhance narrative flow and viewer comprehension.

**__Definition of J-cuts and L-cuts__**

**__J-cuts__**
A J-cut is a transition in which the sound of the next shot begins before its image.

Effects achieved:
announces the next scene
improves narrative continuity
makes the transition as natural as possible
creates anticipation in the viewer

__Example :__ we hear a person speaking before they appear on screen

**__L-cuts__**
An L-cut is a transition in which the sound from the previous shot continues after the image changes.

Results:
ensures audio continuity
improves the clarity of dialogue
avoids abrupt audio cuts
enhances the fluidity of the editing

**__How to use J&L-cuts in Premiere Pro__**

1 - Open the AutoCut extension - Menu: Window -> Extensions -> AutoCut

2 - Use AutoCut Silences

3 - Under “Transition,” select either J or L

4 - Select the overlap duration
