# How to split / merge chunks?

AutoCaptions automatically segments your text into** chunks**, but you can fully control and adjust them.

## What is a “chunk”?

A chunk is **a group of words** displayed together in a single caption.

Example:
* “This is great” → 1 chunk
* “This / is / great” → 3 chunks

Controlling chunks helps you manage the rhythm and readability of your captions.

To split a caption into smaller parts:

1. Open **AutoCaptions**
2. Open the **Caption Editor**
3. Select the caption you want to edit
4. Click on **Split chunks**

AutoCut will automatically split the sentence into smaller segments (up to word-by-word)
This is the fastest way to create dynamic, punchy captions.

## How to merge chunks

To combine multiple chunks:

1. Open the **Caption Editor**
2. Select the captions you want to merge
3. Click on **Merge chunks**

AutoCut will group them into a single caption.

## When should you split or merge?

**Split chucks when:**
* You want more rhythm and impact
* You’re editing short-form content (TikTok, Reels, Shorts)
* You want to highlight each word

**Merge chucks when:**
* The text feels too fast or hard to read
* You’re working on long-form content
* You want a more natural reading flow

Don’t forget to click "**Save"** after making changes in the Caption Editor. Otherwise, your edits won’t be applied.
