# How to correct and split the transcript in Advanced Captions

Review the transcript before finalizing your captions. Speech recognition can misinterpret names, product names, numbers and words recorded over noise or music.
## Correct a word
Open the Advanced Captions workspace and select the relevant chunk. Edit the word directly, then preview the sentence to check that the text and spoken audio still match.
For repeated mistakes, use Find and replace. For example, replace an incorrect product name throughout the transcript instead of correcting every occurrence individually. Review replacements in context.
## Split a caption into shorter chunks
Point to the boundary between two words and use Split here. The original chunk becomes two chunks. The split-on-punctuation tool can also help divide a long transcript into shorter phrases. Preview the resulting chunks: a shorter block is not automatically easier to read if it disappears too quickly.
## Merge neighboring chunks
Use Merge with previous chunk or Merge with next chunk to join adjacent chunks. In the example, the first caption is split after “hours”, then merged again. If the chunks use different presets, review the resulting preset and layout after the merge.
## Hide a caption and restore it
The Delete chunk action hides that chunk from the caption output. Restore chunk makes it visible again. This changes the captions; it does not remove the underlying video or spoken audio from your Premiere Pro sequence.
## Adjust formatting
Use the transcript tools for punctuation and letter case when needed. Read through the result after applying a global transformation, especially for names and abbreviations.
## Check the result
Play the preview around every split, merge or correction. Check word order, chunk timing and line length, then import the updated captions into Premiere Pro. Review the output in the sequence before exporting.
